Adventures on a Boat

SPRING BREAKKKKKKK!!!! Just kidding, but really, for Spring Break this year me and my two friends Bianca and Sabrina went on a cruise to Key West, Florida and Grand Cayman in the British West Indies. Our ship was the Celebrity Century and we left from the Port of Miami on Monday March 15th. After Bianca's mom saved us from driving to Miami, we woke up super early on Monday morning and caught a flight into Ft. Lauderdale airport and then took a taxi to Miami, we finally got on the boat around 11 am on Monday. As you can see from the picture below our flight was really early...like 6 am early...

Warmth awaited us in Miami and on the boat. We enjoyed some champagne and mimosas as we were welcomed on board by the crew. It was so nice outside!

We finally left port around 5 pm on Monday evening and then sailed to Key West, where we spent all day on Tuesday. It was little too cold in Key West for the beach, but we rented bikes and rode around the island all day. We visited the beach just to stick our toes in the water, then we biked to the Botanical Gardens and then we went to the Southernmost Point of the United States. We also got some really good Key West ice cream.

Tuesday evening was our formal dinner night on the cruise. We all dressed up really fancy and ate some awesome food at the Grand Restaurant which is the main dining establishment on the ship.

Wednesday was St. Patrick's Day and also our day at sea as we traveled to Grand Cayman which is just south of the Cuban coast. It also happened to be rainy and gross for most of the day which resulted in me curled up under the overhang of the boat deck on a lounge chair listening to my iPod, reading my book, and then eventually, like most others, sleeping. This was also the day that Sabrina and I both lost $10 at the casino playing the slots.

Thursday was the day we got to Grand Cayman! We had to take a launch to get to the main island from our ship. We got off the boat thinking we were going to walk to the beach and be cheap and not pay for the expensive cruise ship shuttles, however, after walking about two miles we realized that the beach was a lot farther away than we thought. We got a taxi, along with some of our friends we met from Indiana, 11 of us hopped into a taxi (they drive on the other side of road too) and we went to the beach for the first part of the day.

The second half of the day we took another cab in Georgetown which is the city part of Grand Cayman. We ended up at Senor Frogs (of course) where we enjoyed lovely frozen drinks and a conga line complete with free shots as we moved throughout the bar.

Friday was our sea day as we sailed back to Miami to get off the ship. The day was a lot of fun though. We layed by the pool, watched the officers play a game of pool volleyball, and even got to see the coast of Cuba (which was super cool).

Friday night we spent the night at Hemisphere, the club on the boat that proceeded to yield some of the funnest moments of the trip. We got to hang out with our Indiana friends, as well two girls we met on the ship from Ohio, Allie and Julie. Last night on the boat, you gotta go all out!

On Saturday morning we disembarked from the ship and took a taxi away from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale airport, where we proceeded to spend 8 HOURS until our flight at 6 pm. Thus, the look on all our faces.

Spring Break 2010=Success. Until next time!
